Access Control: Overview 🔎

Access control enables to check members' entries when they arrive at the gym.
Xplor Gym suggests 3 different types of access control.
- What differences are there between these types of access control ?
- Which type of access control should you consider according to your needs ?

This article brings answers to those questions and details about the different types of access control.
Just keep in mind that our RFID technology works with a frequency of 13.56 Mhz (for RFID Cards)

Access  Control Level 1: Affordable

Access control Level 1 is the cheapest access control type as it requires little equipment, that is:

- a 'prox and roll'

OR

- a 'webcam'

Considering the requested equipment and price, you should not expect all the features related to Access control Level 2 or 3 but it guarantees the essential feature, i.e. the link with the software.
green_tick.pngWhat can it do ?

- Mark the member's entry in the software
- Mark as 'present' at the class when it beeps
- Know the approximate number of people in your gym at a given moment.
green_tick.pngHow does it work ?

- First assign a card to the member file (if RFID card)
- Open the club screen
- And scan the card when the screen is active.
Best practice: Have 2 yoyos
- 1 to assign cards and search members in the software
- 1 on another PC with the active club screen to enable members to beep when they want.
green_tick.pngWhat are the advantages ?

- The price
- The installation simplicity (Plug and Play)
- The software features related to access control
green_tick.pngWhat are the inconvenients ?

- Non 'automatic' access control
- Have 2 'yoyos' or 'webcams' for an optimal use
- Have to stay behind the PC and switch screen to record entries
- You cannot manage any equipment
- You cannot mark as present or force the entry without an Xplor Box.
green_tick.pngWhich price for which equipment ?

One yoyo will cost around £200 (total price for one).
If you already have 2 PCs for an optimal use, this will cost around £200 X 2.
- The prox'n'roll also called Yoyo:

- The Webcam

This type of access control called 'light' is usually dedicated to family gyms with a small database which use the schedule and want to know about their attendance, but also to gyms without an entry point.

Access  Control Level 2 : Serinity

Access control Level 2 is more 'convenient' than Level 1 as it is linked to an Xplor Box which enables to automate the link with the software, on or off in your PC. But it doesn't manage equipments.
it requires equipment, that is:
- a 'Xplorbox (Resabox)'
- a 'Reader' (Standalone reader)
And this one also includes a Yoyo if you wish to use RFID cards instead of QR Codes.
green_tick.pngWhat can it do ?

- Mark the member's entry in the software
- Mark as 'present' to the class when it beeps
- Know the approximate number of people in your gym at a given moment (it can do it more precisely if you have a 2nd reader at the exit)
- Scan QR Codes and RFID cards on the same reader.
green_tick.pngHow does it work ?

- First install the Xplor Box and the reader
- Scan the card or the QR Code on the reader
green_tick.pngWhat are the advantages ?

- Easy to install
- Easy to use
- Software features linked to access control
- Automated with the software
- Nobody needed in the back office.
green_tick.pngWhat are the inconvenients ?

- Its price (compared to Level 1)
- Need an electrician to install it
green_tick.pngWhich price for which equipment ?

An autonomous Kit costs around £1,700.
- The Xplor Box: around £999 (yoyo included)

green_tick.pngFor whom ?
This type of access control is used by anyone who wants an autonomous access control without managing any equipment, all depends on your budget. At any moment, you can upgrade it to Level 3.

Access  Control Level 3: Driver

Access control Level 3 is the most 'comprehensive' one as it can do what Levels 1 and 2 do but it can also drive equipment such as doors, turnstiles and others. This one includes a Yoyo too if you wish to use RFIDcards instead of QR Codes.

green_tick.pngWhat can it do ?
- Mark the member's entry in the software
- Mark as 'present' to the class when it beeps
- Know the approximate number of people in your gym at a given moment (it can do it more precisely if you have a 2nd reader at the exit)
- Scan QR Codes and RFID cards on the same reader
- Divide your areas

green_tick.pngHow does it work ?
- First install the Xplor Box, the reader(s), the driving kit
- Scan the card or the QR Code on the reader(s)

green_tick.pngWhat are the advantages ?
