How does the goodwill gesture 'Extend the duration' work ?

Before using the feature extending the membership duration, I read this article. 

What you need to understand about the goodwill gesture extending the membership duration is that it enables to offer a certain number of months and that the offered months will be just after the last monthly payment invoiced.

Let's take the example of a 12- month membership which would be extended by 2 months ...

In the case of a spot payment ...

The membership starts in January 2020. Its dates of validity go from January to December 2020. 

If we extend this membership by two months, January and February 2021 will be offered.

In the case of a fixed-term monthly direct debit membership ...

The membership starts in January. Its dates of validity go from January to December 2020. 

However, only January has been invoiced and there are no other early invoices. 

The two offered months are added after the last invoiced monthly payment, that is in February 2020.

In the case of an open-ended monthly Direct Debit membership with a 12-month engagement...

The membership starts in January. Its engagement period goes from January to December 2020.

However, only January has been invoiced and there are no other early invoices yet.

The two offered months are added to the last monthly payment invoiced, that is in February 2020. The engagement period will be postponed by two months.

In the case of a fixed-term Direct Debit membership fully invoiced ... 

The membership starts in January. Its dates of validity go from January to December 2020.

Here, the twelve months are invoiced. So it works like the spot payment. 

If this membership is exended by two months, January and February will be offered.

In the case of an open-ended Direct Debit membership fully invoiced with a 12-month engagement...

When you see the scheduled steps of a membership after extending its membership duration, some monthly payments are actually added as indicated in this article. However, they are rated as for one month , of a normal value even though they will not be invoiced. It is important to be based on the tab Goodwill gesture in the member file to make sure that the extension has duly been made and that the months will not be collected.

Warning - Suspension and cancellation

In all cases, to make a suspension, you will take the value of a full month. (you do not take into account the fact that the months are offered, so charged zero pound). A credit note may be created if a suspension or a cancellation concerns the extension period.
